Tiger sounds sincere, the best thing we can all do is pray for him. My concern for him during his apology was his mention of establishing a balance in his life. His remarks made me grateful to be a Christian. As Christians, we know that although we all need to our part, none of us are capable of balancing life on our own. Christ has to be the hand that guides us. I hope Tiger finds a way to that same peace.

February is Black History Month. Planned There has been a Holocaust
going on in America since the beginning of the 20th Century that most
Americans are completely unaware of. Here’s the background.
Between 1882 and 1968, 3,446 Blacks were lynched in the U.S. That number is surpassed in less than 3 days by abortion.
1,784 African-American children are killed each day by the heinous act of abortion.
3 out of 5 pregnant African-American women will abort their child.

On September 11th 2001, Life changed for many people. Without going into a dissertation about terrorism and the evils of the world. When that day ended I was more afraid than any other day in my life. I was more uncertain and insecure than I had ever been before.
You see, September 11th, 2001, I became a father for the very first time. My wife and I were on the other Coast in the United States. Nowhere near the threat and danger of the day. Yet we felt violated like no other. My first thoughts…

St. Berard and Companions (d. 1220)
Preaching the gospel is often dangerous work. Leaving one’s homeland and adjusting to new cultures, governments and languages is difficult enough; but martyrdom sometimes caps all the other sacrifices. In 1219 with the blessing of St. Francis, Berard left Italy with Peter, Adjute, Accurs, Odo and Vitalis to preach in Morocco. En route in Spain Vitalis became sick and commanded the other friars to continue their mission without him. They tried preaching…

I had an interesting dream last night/this morning…. I dreamt I was in an old theater room. It was a room like the old town hall rooms you would find in 100 plus year old New England buildings, with wooden floors, old beams, and a stage like in a school, about 3 and half feet off the ground. The lighting in the room was reddish brown… like the wood floors, w…

Back in the early nineties, when I was serving in the United States Marine Corps, I found myself leading a squad of Marines on a search and destroy patrol in an area known for a lot of enemy traffic. We were out looking for trouble and we sure enough found it. We were moving in an offset formation, in two columns, with each man spread out by about 15 to 20 feet apart with me walking b…

We always say that Advent is a time of waiting for the coming of the Lord, and that it is! Sometimes I wonder exactly who’s waiting? If we believe that Jesus was born some 2000 years ago, then why are we waiting for him? I would think he is waiting for us. He came to show the way, he told us how to live, he gave us his rules (The Beatitudes), he told us to love, he told us what God the father wanted for us, he told us he was preparing a room for us, he gave us himself in the Eucharist, he gave h…

Brothers!
I pray all is well with you during this Advent season. I've created a Houston, TX, chapter of "The Kings Men" which seeks to build men up, and to combat the evils of pornography. Most of men struggle with addiction and a bad formation on sexuality. We come together, as Brothers of Christ, and son's of the Most High, and strengthen each other and to fight the good fight. Our next meet up is this Wednesday at 7 pm. If you are in town and would like more info email me at catholichack@gma…

Well, it's that time of the season and the Catholic Mountain Christmas List is in its third year. Each Christmas season, we put together a list of things that men of faith can think about during this time of giving and receiving. So, all "consumer-driven society" jokes aside, enjoy the list and know that we at Catholic Mountain are wishing you and all of your loved ones a very blessed and peaceful Advent and Christmas.

I walked into our family room the other day to find a mess that only two young children can make. It truly looked like a tornado had blow through. I asked my older son to please pick it up as his brother is too young to help. His response to my request was "I can't daddy, it's too much." He was correct, there was no way he was going to tackle this. Rather than letting him off the hook I gave him a few small tasks and said "I'll be back in a few minutes to help you, just please do what you can."…

This is dedicated to “Suzy”, a sixteen year old girl, who suffers from depression and sought to overdose on medication to quell her pain in the middle of the night, one room from where her parents slept quietly. This is also dedicated to a young man in college, who was in his first year, away from home and standing two feet from an open window that he was going to jump out from several stories above the ground in an attempt to take his life.
Both “Suzy” and this young man cried out for help one…

Imagine that your best friend has a daughter he is very concerned about. You have spoken with him at great length about this and he has confided in you that while she is extremely attractive, she has some unresolved emotional issues and is very confused. He loves her very much and wants the best for her, but he just can’t seem to get through to her and it’s tearing him apart. With this as the background one day you are approached by a mutual acquaintance, someone the two of you know but not some…

My name is John Moorehouse. I just read the quote on the homepage from Blessed Pier Giorgio "To live without Faith...that is not living but existing." It struck me because that is the quote I chose as the motto of Catholic Men's Quarterly over five years ago. If you've not heard of CMQ, please check it out. I think you will like it. It is the type of magazine you could give to your lapsed buddies as it is aimed at the regular guy in the pew and features humor, sports, travel, military history, a…

On November 9th, I started two long processes. The first is a Marian consecration with my family set to end on Our Lady of Guadalupe's feast day (December 12). The second was working out with P90X.
Perseverance is a difficult virtue to develop, as it requires small efforts along what may be a very long road. As Aristotle so clearly taught, however, virtue comes through small actions ordered to a particular good until that action is done easily, readily, and with pleasure. So, I'm seeking to per…

I am largely slated to go to hell.
This isn't a morbid assessment or an opinion uttered in despair, but a statement of fact. As of right now, I would be severed from the Kingdom and doing shots of brimstone for eternity.
As a Catholic, and by far not the best, keeping a tab on my sins is tough. What's worse, I confess the latest battery and within days, more sins spring up. It becomes such a routine that I think my priest becomes a Whack-A-Mole player whenever I go to confession.
Imperfect th…
